For a Classical Concert, the TSO usually plays established music. Beethoven’s 7th Symphony or one of Bach’s Cello Suites might be a part of this concert.

While at a Pops Concert, the TSO plays music from a wide range of genres, styles, and composers. This is where you would go to find Movie music like Star Wars or Pirates of the Caribbean, or maybe something that’s a little more familiar to everyone.

How early should I arrive?

The doors at White Concert Hall open an hour before every concert. If it’s a 7:30pm concert, plan to arrive by 7:15pm to park, get your tickets, and find your seat.

There’s also the FREE Pre-Concert talk at 6:30pm which is open to everyone before classical series concerts. The conductor Kyle Wiley Pickett will give you a behind the scenes look at the music the TSO will play. This is a great opportunity if you want to learn more about the music.

What if I’m late for a concert?

Don’t worry. If you end up being late and the symphony has started playing, wait outside the doors until you hear clapping or a break in the music.

If you have any questions or are unsure when to go in, ask one of the ushers or staff at Will Call and they will be happy to help you.

At the Concert

When should I clap?

This is a question a lot of people have. Sometimes there are breaks in pieces and the piece is not quite finished, which can be confusing. One way to know when to clap is to follow others in the audience. Another way is to clap when you feel moved after a piece. If all else fails just know, it’s ok to clap. The worst thing that happens is the orchestra gets a little extra applause.

What is the photo/video policy?

Taking photos or recording during a live performance is not allowed, as it can be disruptive and violates music licensing rights. If you are found violating this policy, you may be asked to leave the performance.

What’s the cellphone policy?

We ask that you turn your cellphone off during the concert. This way you and everyone in the audience can enjoy the music without distraction. Please feel free to use your phone during intermission, but remember to turn it off for the second half as well. If your cellphone is disturbing others during the performance, you may be asked to step out of the concert hall.
